Trane Thermostat Is Reverting to Another Setting
If you have a Trane smart thermostat or programmable thermostat that keeps reverting to another temperature setting, it can be very frustrating. You count on your thermostat to help keep your home comfortable at exactly the temperature you want. You also count on it for energy savings.
Why does your thermostat suddenly have a mind of its own? There could be multiple reasons. Let’s look at some causes and their possible solutions.
Cause #1: Power problems
A common reason your thermostat may be resetting itself is if your home is having power issues. Check and replace the batteries if applicable. Look for loose or damaged wiring, but don’t touch it. Ensure the power supply to the thermostat and your HVAC system is stable. If you had a complete power outage, you may need to reset your thermostat.
Cause #2: Thermostat settings
If your thermostat reverted to factory settings, you will need to reprogram it. Refer to your Trane thermostat owner’s manual for directions on how to do this. Ensure you correctly configure the heating and cooling schedule.
Cause #3: Software issues
While many software updates are automatic, you may occasionally need to manually update your thermostat’s firmware or reinstall the software. If you have signed up for Trane Diagnostics via the Home App, your Trane dealer can confirm that you have the latest version of software or walk you through how to initiate the update process from your thermostat.
Cause #4: HVAC system issues
Sometimes, the problem isn’t with the thermostat at all, but with another component in your HVAC system. Faulty components can cause the thermostat to revert to another setting. If this is the case, you will need to have an HVAC professional troubleshoot your system and make repairs.
Prevent problems with regular HVAC maintenance
Did you know that when you schedule professional HVAC maintenance, the HVAC technician checks your thermostat for accurate operation?
While your furnace, AC unit, heat pump, or air handler may get the bulk of time and attention, they also check your thermostat wiring, settings, software, and more. Keep your entire HVAC system running at peak performance by scheduling regular maintenance in the spring and fall.
If your thermostat stopped working and you can’t figure out why, call your local Trane dealer for assistance. If it’s a Trane smart thermostat that’s connected and you have granted Trane Diagnostics remote access, they may be able to troubleshoot the issue and fix it remotely.
If you need a new thermostat or have other HVAC issues, they can also schedule an on-site visit to get your HVAC system operating as it should.
